Danny Cope set for quick return to boxing ring after defeat

DANNY Cope will make a quick return to the ring on Tuesday in a bid to bury the frustration of a disputed defeat.

Cope suffered a points loss at the hands of old rival, Kallum Leather, at Hartlepool Catholic Club’s boxing show at the Owton Manor Social Club last night.

The 20-year-old lost on a majority decision to his Middlesbrough opponent, although it seemed the Gus Robinson Developments light-welterweight had edged it on his superior work-rate and aggression.

“I thought I had done enough,” Cope told SportMail.

“I let him come into it too much in the last round but I thought I was in front.”

Cope will now box again on Tuesday against Bilton Hall’s Sean Moore on the Horsley Hill show.

Gus Robinson Developments coach Wayne Short said: “I thought the last round probably cost him last night, but it was close, it could have gone either way.

“You’ve got to remember that was only Danny’s 19th fight and he is getting better all the time.

“Tuesday will be a hard fight up there but Danny has had a good season and he is boxing well.”
