OLYMPIC boxing hopes Amanda Coulson and Savannah Marshall will sharpen up their skills in the sunshine in Brazil.

Great Britain’s boxing team are off to South America on January 29 for a training camp with the Brazil squad as part of the build up to the World Championships and London 2012.

An all-expenses paid trip to Brazil conjures up thoughts of hours and hours on the white sandy beaches of Rio.

But while the fighters hope to see some sunshine in the middle of our cold mid-winter, they are adamant they are there to graft.

“It’s a training camp, not a holiday,” Coulson told SportMail.

“We’re not on the Copacobana, we’re in Sao Paulo.”

Both fighters will be keen to shine as brightly as the sun, especially Coulson.

The 29-year-old is involved in a three-way scrap for Britain’s lightweight vest at the worlds and Olympics against Natasha Jonas and Chantelle Cameron.

“All of us, me, Tasha and Chantelle, are fighting to win the same spot and it’s going to come down to how we perform over the next 12 weeks.”

Marshall does not have the same selection pressures as her Pooly neighbour.

But she is keen to carry on the good form she displayed at the end of last year.

After winning bronze at trhe European Championships in Rotterdam last October, she reeled off four brilliant wins, all in London.

A 20-3 international victory over German number one Andrea Strohmaier at the York Hall was followed by gold at the London Prepares Series at the ExCel Arena, where she defeated Naomi Fischer Rasmussen (23-11), Fran Crews (14-12) and Dariga Shakimova (13-10).

“The second half of the year was better than the first,” Marshall said.
