POOLIE punchers Amanda Coulson and Savannah Marshall experienced mixed fortunes in their international bouts in Brazil last night.

Coulson defeated Argentina’s Leoneo Sanchez but there was agony for Marshall, who was beaten on punch countback after her clash with Brazil’s Roseli Feitosa had ended level at 16-16.

Coulson, looking to impress in her bid for GB’s lightweight spot at London 2012, led by two points after the first two minutes but a poor second round saw her go two points behind.

The 29-year-old still trailed by two going into the last but turned the fight on its head by storming back to win 10-8.

“I had a terrible second round,” Coulson told SportMail. “The girl was smaller than me and kept putting her head low – she ended up getting warned for it.

“But it was a frustrating bout for me as I couldn’t get my boxing going but a win is a win and I’ll look at moving that on next week in my next bout and performing better.”

Marshall continued her outstanding form and was desperately unlucky not to get the verdict against Feitosa, the 2010 world champion at U81kilos.

The 20-year-old looked brilliant, yet the judges only marked her a point ahead after the first and 5-3 up at halfway.

Marshall fell one down going into the last but finished strongly to tie the scores at 16-16.

It went to punch countback and the Brazilian edged it 52-51.

Team-mate and fellow Poolie Coulson said: “There was no way Savannah lost. Everyone watching thought she’d won.

“She was outstanding and there is more to come from her, I’m sure.”

There were wins for the other GB boxers Nicola Adams, Chantelle Cameron and Natasha Jonas.
