Jonny be good...

JEREMY Guscott has had few equals when it comes to England and British Lions centres.

A bricklayer turned rugby star, Guzza has proved he's not been a bad pundit either.

And, unlike some of the experts Sky employ for their football coverage, he's not afraid to say what he thinks.

His latest gem is that England should pension off world record points scorer Jonny Wilkinson and start with Jonny's old Newcastle team-mate Toby Flood at stand-off.

Granted, Jerry knows a little bit more than me, but replacing Wilkinson with Flood is like binning off Kelly Brook to go out with Roy Kelly. A bit extreme but you get my drift.

Jonny has been England's talisman – hero at the 2003 World Cup and then he lifted us off our backsides and inspired us to reach last year's final.

Last week the Falcons stand-off became the record scorer in the Premiership, not bad for a fella who has missed four centuries of rugby because of injury.

True he's had more injuries than Bryan Robson but at 29, there still looks like there's a bit of life left in his legs.

Jerry wrote in his BBC Column: "The Jonny Wilkinson era is over because we know what he can do and he would need to show a new dimension to reclaim his place.

"His defence is great and his goal-kicking is second to none but I think the new era has to see more emphasis on attack."

When there is someone better then by all means let the king abdicate with some grace – until then let him stay at number 10.
