West Hartlepool and Lymm fight out a dull 3-3 draw

WEST Hartlepool and Lymm must surely have set some kind of record.

In 160 minutes of rugby managed by the same referee they managed just one try and two penalties between them – a measly 11 points.

Sadly for West, it was Lymm who took the lion’s share of the league points, achieving six to the Hartlepool side’s three.

In the first game at Brinkburn, West battered the visiting line for the final 20 minutes, but could not get over losing their first home game in a year and a half by 5-0.

That game was marred by a controversial refereeing decision when a sin-binned prop was allowed to come on for the last five minutes to replace a blood injury.

There was no such contention at Beechwood, but it was still very much the same, with West having two thirds of the play, yet once again failing to score a match- winning try and having to settle for two points in a 3-3 draw.

It left Director of Rugby Kevan Oliphant scratching his head.

“How we can have had so much possession in two games against the same opposition and only score one penalty is mystifying,” he said.
