MICK Wadsworth could be set to make a summer move for Newcastle United loan starlet Ryan Donaldson.
The 19-year-old could be a free agent come the end of the season should his parent club choose not to offer a new contract.
And, should that be the case, Pools will definitely be in the running for the signature of the England youth ace.
Donaldson enjoyed his best performance yet in the blue and white of Pools during Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic.
Paired in attack with James Brown, it was the junior partner who shone, working the channels, bringing in team-mates and drawing countless fouls from a ruffled Addicks backline.
Donaldson will keep his place in the side for Saturday’s visit of MK Dons and Pools will almost certainly now look to extend his stay beyond next week’s scheduled return to St.James’ Park.
But Wadsworth told SportMail he already has one eye on strengthening his squad ahead of next season, and admits Donaldson is a potential target.
“I’m not only thinking about now with Ryan,” he said.
“I’m looking longer term and he is a player I will most definitely be interested in come the summer.
“I don’t know what’s happening at Newcastle, he may get a new contract there, he may not.
“I’ve no idea what they are thinking, but we have to be ready and identify young players who may be available.”
