A FLORIST has proved she is blooming marvellous after coming first in the regional heats of a national competition.
Rebecca Hough, who works at A Secret Garden florist shop, in Elwick Road, Hartlepool, took part in the Interflora Florist of the Future competition heats, in Leeds, last weekend.
During the competition Rebecca had to create a naturally-inspired bridal design, a small floral tree and a wedding table design.
She was able to complete one of the items, the bridal design, in advance of the competition but had to construct the other two designs within a set time limit.
All three of Rebecca’s designs scored the highest marks from the panel of judges, which included members of the UK Floristry Judges Guild.
She will now go on to compete at the grand finale to be held at Royal Horticultural Flower Show, in Tatton Park, next year.
Rebecca said: “I was sick with worry and very nervous throughout the competition but am over the moon with my achievement.
“I was particularly delighted with my floral tree which I created using green and cream flowers.
“I used a beeswax ball to keep the design looking natural and the wax drips added to the flowing style of the piece.”
Rebecca has worked at A Secret Gardens Florist for 18 months and decided to pursue a career in the profession after undertaking some work experience at a florist shop while at school.
