See the stunning work of Hartlepool's artistic students

The future generation of Hartlepool artists and designers have put their talents in the spotlight at a new show which is going on public display.

The future generation of Hartlepool artists and designers are putting their talents in the spotlight at a new show.

The annual degree show at Cleveland College of Art and Design (CCAD) has opened and it features the work of students from ten degree courses.

Everything from fashion to photography, textiles and surface design to costume interpretation is exhibited in the display which runs for nine days.

This year’s talented line-up of students has already achieved great success.

• Textiles students Joanne Stenberg, Kelly Nolan and Sharron Bates have all achieved success, with Joanne collaborating with Freeman Hospital in Newcastle to produce images; Kelly selling work at a trade exhibition in New York; and Sharron expecting a visit from business bosses in Belgium to discuss opportunities for a wallpaper design that she is creating for them.

• Illustration student Alan Vest has secured a role at The Guardian, producing illustrations for weekly column, ‘My Writing Day’

• Production Design for Stage and Screen student Emma Train has produced a body of work called Spectacle Of Steel, which focuses on the issue of steel making on Teesside, keeping the SOS of the cry for help to the government.

• Matti Walker who created a campaign using leaflets and adoption packages to raise awareness of African animals, facing threats to their existence.

The show has also led to students winning a selection of awards.

• Principal’s Dissertation Prize - Demi-Louise Procter.

• Most Actively Engaged Student – Callum Griffiths.

• Hartlepool Borough Council Award for use of colour with design – Claire Smith.

• Textile Product Prize – Lucy Heron.

• Surface Designer Prize – Joanne Stenberg.

• Outstanding Contribution to Studies – Hannah Johnson.

• Student of the Year – Hayley Stuart.

Photography students Ben Atkinson and Grant Hegedus have been shortlisted for the Association of Photographers Student Awards .

College student Claire Bartlett has also had her work chosen to go on show at the Due North exhibition in London, which starts next week.

The degree show is open to the public from 10am until 4pm on Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4. It is open between 10am and 8pm from Monday, June 6, until Friday, June 10; and 10am until 4pm on Saturday, June 11 .
