AROUND 200 youngsters from primary schools across Hartlepool made a splash in an annual swimming gala.
The annual Primary Schools Swimming Gala was held at the Mill House Leisure Centre and involved pupils from 20 of the town’s primary schools.
Evelyn Lithgow, learn to swim co-ordinator with Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “This year’s gala was a fantastic event and it demonstrated the immense, young swimming talent we have in Hartlepool.
“I would like to thank all the primary school teachers and swimming teachers for their support along with representatives from Hartlepool Sixth Form College, Dyke House School, Mill House Leisure Centre staff, the council’s sport and physical activity team and especially the children who worked so hard to make this event such a success.”
Trophies were presented by the former England Swim Squad team manager Brenda Bland, swimming coach Alison Middleton, from Dyke House School, along with John Mennear and Gemma Ptak from the council. Full results were:
l League 1 first place was Sacred Heart, second was Holy Trinity, third was West Park;
l League 2 first place was Throston, second was St Helen’s, third was Barnard Grove;
l The Small Schools’ Trophy went to St Helen’s;;
l The Cannon Relay title went to Holy Trinity;
l The Best Boys Team was Holy Trinity; the Best Girls Team was Throston.
