KIND-HEARTED staff at an opticians were today taking on a challenging trek to raise money for a charity set up by Hartlepool United manager Colin Cooper.

Nine staff members at the Specsavers store, in Hartlepool’s Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, have signed up for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge as part of the Finlay Cooper Fund’s biggest fundraising event of the year.

Specsavers staff Stephanie Armitage, Avril Hall, Andrea Cottnam, Allyson Todd, Chris Colbeck, Hollie White, Emily Hibbert, Andrew Hart and Steven Wheatley are all taking part in the trek today.

Ian Walker, shop manager said: “All our staff love raising money for charity, there’s always someone doing something.

“I’m not sure what they’ve let themselves in for this time, but it’s for a fantastic cause and we’re hoping to raise a lot of money.”

Today’s trek will see walkers go up Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough – a total distance of 26 miles and ascent of 1,600 metres – in just 12 hours.

The Fund has raised more than £300,000 for children’s causes since it was formed in 2006 in memory of the son Colin and his wife Julie lost in a choking accident shortly before his second birthday.
