SINGING sensation Elena Larkin is on the crest of a wave with a television appearance to boast about.

But now the 16-year-old from Hartlepool is hoping to add another string to her bow in the Pride of Hartlepool competition.

The Ryehill Gardens resident has been nominated for the young performer category of our contest.

The nomination came from Ian McManus, of the Red Dreams organisation, which encourages young musical talent in Hartlepool.

Ian said: “Elena has a heart of gold and amazing talent. She came to Red Dreams two years ago, wanting to develop her style, and song writing; as well as building her stage presence and confidence.

“She has recorded original songs at Abbey Road Studios, releasing them on Red Dreams’ ‘not for profit’ record label, helping us raise money from sales.

“Elena is always the first person to put her name down for any events we have for raising funds for Red Dreams and other charities. She is determined, grounded, humble, but so very talented.”

Elena’s father, Steve Larkin, 49, a welding inspector, said: “I am absolutely over the moon for her and she will be delighted. It is fantastic news.”

Elena has just completed a live performance on a television channel set up by Sunderland University.

And she is also in the running in a competition called Teen Star. It is the UK’s only singing competition for young singers, duos and vocal groups, with singing auditions and live music showcases.

She will appear in that on March 22 and Steve said: “She is still writing her own songs as well.”

Elena joins a fantastic list of entrants for this year’s Pride of Hartlepool competition. But we want more and time is running out for people to put forward names.

We are calling on our readers to nominate that special person or people who have done something that you believe deserves recognition.

It could be anyone from 999 heroes to community champions – help us celebrate those who have done their town proud. You have until early April to put forward your favourites.

Fill in the nomination form in the Hartlepool Mail or complete the online entry form.
