A dance festival was coming to an end today.
But the Billingham International Folklore Festival of World Dance will leave behind plenty of wonderful memories for both visiting performers and the audiences to cherish.
Hundreds of dancers were in Billingham, representing countries such as Brazil, Chile, China, Mexico, the Philippines, Serbia, and the USA.
Performances included everything from an American hoedown with the Bailey Mountain Cloggers troupe to Chinese and Mexican visitors holding workshops for local children with an interest in dance.
The finale of the festival was taking place today, starting with a farewell gala concert at 2.30pm, featuring all of the dance companies.
It was due to be followed by a mini-gala concert and closing ceremony at 7.30pm. More than 10,000 people were expected to watch the festival throughout its duration.
Artistic director of the festival, Olga Maloney said the shows had been brilliant.
She said it was “such a great coup for the area to have such a prestigious and longstanding global event held here.”
