A dance crew did Hartlepool proud when it was judged to be among the very best in the world.

Ruff Diamond was placed 12th at the World Hip Hop Dance Championships.

The event which was held at the Harrah’s resort in San Diego, California, saw crews from New Zealand, Indonesia, Europe and the USA take part.

The Ruff Diamond choreographer is Zac Healey, who runs the Urban Rockz dance academy in Whitby Street South in Hartlepool.

Seven of the crew – Zac, Ryan Llewellyn, Charlie Eve, Sam Appleyard, Thomas Armstrong, Rob Law and Tom Malone – competed in the USA event.

They were placed 12th out of 80 crews who came from all over the worldt.

The impressive world performance is not the first time that the crew has done well on the national and international stage.

Ruff Diamond has a history of success in competition. In 2013, they were runners-up in the Sky 1 competition Got To Dance. Weeks later they picked up a special recognition honour at a Hartlepool Mail awards.

The crew were crowned UK adult hip hop champions and came 16th in the World Hip Hop Championships in Las Vegas.
