ALBUM REVIEW: Drenge - Undertow

DRENGE ... Undertow (Infectious)
DRENGE ... Undertow (Infectious)

A THRILLING, if not especially original romp, 2013’s self-titled debut announced Derbyshire duo Drenge among the most exciting fresh faces in British rock.

On this follow-up, the Loveless brothers have aimed for a more expansive sound, employing new bassist Rob Graham on a handful of numbers and sporting a more polished production, courtesy of Ross Orton.

The result is a loss of some of their initial grungy appeal, yet the energy remains relentless, with the likes of Running Wild and Favourite Son epitomising their aggressive yet fiercely melodic forte.

A solid return. 7/10. AW
