SHE may have relocated to the capital, but Nadine Shah still sings with the same distinctive South Tyneside twang which marks her out among hordes of other solo songwriters.

Together with her noir approach, that voice won admirers across the nation on 2013’s Love Your Dum and Mad, with many critics drawing favourable comparisons to the likes of Nick Cave and PJ Harvey.

A step-up in virtually every sense, this follow-up looks likely to gain similar plaudits.

Its beginning is electrifying, with the gothic smear of Fast Food and the doom-ridden single Fool both sensational and a tad unsettling.

The quality rarely dips either, with the conflicted relationships of Divided and Big Hands showing she’s equally adept at dealing in personal, slow-burning ballads. 7/10. AW
