TICKETS sales are going strong to see opera star Lesley Garrett perform in Hartlepool – and Mail readers have a chance to win two great seats.
Hartlepool Male Voice Choir is looking forward to singing alongside Lesley for a second time next month.
Hundreds of tickets have already been snapped up for the show at the Borough Hall on the Headland on Saturday, June 15.
But a number of good seats are still available and the choir has teamed up with the Mail to offer readers the chance to win two second row tickets worth £30 each.
Duncan Graham, chairman of Hartlepool Male Voice Choir, said: “We are really looking forward to her coming. She was fantastic last time.
“We have been rehearsing for around two and a half months. We have got the music she will be performing, but the final rehearsal with her will take place on the afternoon of the concert.”
Lesley, well known from many stage and screen appearances, first performed with the male voice choir two years ago in a memorable sell out show.
Her next appearance in town comes fresh from her successful return to opera in a demanding one-woman show.
She won top reviews from critics for her performance in Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine (The Human Voice) for Opera North in Leeds.
Duncan added: “Lesley told me she was thinking about doing this project when she last performed with us, but it was just an idea at that point.
“She won a lot of praise in the press for her performance. It is a lot like an athlete going into training. I think she will be in top form.
“Lesley thrilled the audience when she was our guest star two years ago and the choir is delighted that she has agreed to return.”
The male voice choir will join Lesley for two numbers in each half of the concert which starts at 7.30pm.
The choir has held a series of successful celebrity summer concerts for a number of years.
They have delighted audiences by performing with Russell Watson twice and Aled Jones.
Tickets priced at £30 and £25 for slightly restricted view are available from Duncan Graham on (01429) 296945 or secretary Mick Waller on (01429) 423063.
To be in with a chance of winning the two tickets up for grabs simply answer the following question: What was the name of the one-woman Leeds show marking Lesley’s return to opera?
Send your answers with name, address and a contact phone number to Duncan Graham at 3 Commondale Drive, Seaton Carew, TS25 2AN by June 7.
The correct entries will be entered into a draw and the winners will be notified by the choir.
