HARTLEPOOL Male Voice Choir have announced they will not be holding a celebrity concert this summer after the planned guest star had to pull out due to illness.
The popular choir has held a series of sell-out shows at the Headland’s Borough Hall for the last few years when they performed alongside Aled Jones, Russell Watson and Lesley Garrett.
Another concert was planned for June this year but the unnamed star guest became ill and had to pull out of all commitments.
Chairman Duncan Graham said: “Given that we had an extremely busy year last year. We took the withdrawal of the celebrity as a sort of sign that we should ease up a little and will not be holding a summer concert this year.
“However we hope to resume in 2015 in June and are currently looking at guest artists for that.”
The choir’s next big engagement is in the spring when they perform at the Hartlepool Ceremonial Mayor’s annual charity concert.
Once again they will share the stage with Hartlepool Ladies’ Choir.
The concert is planned for Saturday, April 16, at the Borough Hall.
The Male Voice Choir’s packed programme last year included their summer concert, a tour of Arbroath in Scotland, and hosting the East Fife visit in Hartlepool.
They also performed at the Harrogate Massed Male Voices, Scottish Festival of Brass and Voices for Cancer UK, Durham Cathedral, the council chairman’s charity as well as a host of other local concerts.
The choir rehearse in the Corner Flag at Hartlepool Football Club on Fridays from 7.30pm–9.30pm.
Potential new members are welcome.
