It has 10 tutors who offer music lessons for almost any instrument, and already, over 50 students have enrolled.
The academy is owned by professional musician Mick Donnelly, who is a saxophonist. He has been delighted by its success so far.
Mr Donnelly said: “This has been in the pipeline for over five years. We had to get the premises, which we now have at the Enterprise Centre.
“The word is starting to get around, and we’re delighted with the response we’ve had so far.”
In June, an open day was held at the academy, giving people a chance to take advantage of free music lessons, and a similar event will be held on Saturday.
There will be a performance from the Burbank Street Brass Band, while there will be workshops at noon and 2pm, as well as free 20-minute lessons.
Mr Donnelly added: “The last open day we had went fantastically well, with over 50 people joining in with the free lessons and enjoying a free concert with Jake Turnbull.
“Because of that, we’re holding another one, where free 20-minute lessons on any instruments, apart from the harp, which we don’t teach, will be available.
“We’ve had a lot of interest in the academy, and one woman, Eileen Bowes, donated a ukulele to us.
“It goes back many, many years in the family, and after we helped to fix it for her, she asked if we’d like to keep it, so we’re going to put it in the library.”
