ON the back of a performance on the seafront on bonfire night, the Jar Family are heading back to town again for two festive family gigs.

The industrial-folk seven-piece with a strong Hartlepool core will be lighting up the town for the fast-approaching festivities when they help to switch on the Christmas lights on Thursday, December 5.

But the lads won’t be leaving their instruments at home, and will be playing an acoustic set afterwards.

And a little over two weeks later fans will be able to get their Jar Family fix again when they headline a Christmas gig at the Borough Hall, on the Headland on Saturday, December 21.

For the band, it’s a chance to welcome their younger fans on board for the evening and the gig will start a little earlier than usual to encourage families to snap up tickets.

Jar Family member Al Devon explained: “We do have a lot of younger fans and obviously they can’t come to a lot of our gigs.

“But we wanted the young ones to be able to come along to this gig so doors will be opening at 7pm, we will be on stage quite early and there are no age restrictions.”

For the band, made up of Hartlepool lads Al Devon, Max Bianco, Richie Docherty, Chris Hooks and “Dali” as well as former Squeeze bassist Keith Wilkinson and Kez Edwards, the gig at the Borough Hall is a great way to cap off a “fantastic” year.

Fresh from the release of this summer’s acclaimed second album, Jarmalade, the Jar Family have continued their non-stop tour around the UK.

But the lads ensure Hartlepool is always a fixed destination in their tour schedule.

“We try to play in Hartlepool as often as possible and we always tend to head back up for a gig at Christmas time,” said Al.

“We weren’t expecting to get the call to play on bonfire night and to be honest it was quite a surprise to be asked to do the Christmas lights as well, but we are delighted to do both.

“And the gig at the Borough Hall is a fantastic way to finish the year, we already have a lot going on with planning for next year.”

Around 1,000 tickets are available for Jar Family fans to pack into the Borough Hall.

Tickets are on sale now at Hartlepool Tourist Information Centre, in Church Square.

Tickets are priced at £10 each or £30 for four.
