Indie legends Cast brought a blast of Britpop magic to Sunderland’s newest music venue.

The 1990s Merseyside outfit, fronted by indie icon and La’s legend John Power, performed to an energetic crowd at The Point in Park Lane, which recently reopened as a live music and events venue.

Cast erupted on stage with opening track Time Bomb from their 2012 Troubled Times album, before slipping into a crowd-pleasing set packed with classics from the 1990s.

Live the Dream, Flying, and a back-to-back couplet of Sandstorm and Finetime had the crowd ecstatic.

The four-piece finished their main set with Walk Away, before an encore medley of See That Girl, Free Me and Alright.

Newer material on the bill included a polished performance of the excellent Baby Blue Eyes, released late last year and due to feature on an as-yet unnamed new album.

Cast were supported by Chris Helme, formerly of fellow 1990s indie outfit The Seahorses, who performed a more intimate-style set including a beautiful acoustic version of his former band’s second single Blinded by the Sun.
