POP star Alexandra Burke promises to be the queen of the night when she brings a West End show to the region.
The X Factor winner will step back into the shoes of Rachel Marron, famously played by Whitney Houston, when musical The Bodyguard runs in Newcastle next spring.
It’s a return to the role for Alexandra who most recently performed it during the show’s run at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End.
She said: “I couldn’t be happier to be joining the tour and I’m excited to get started.
“Being on the theatre stage has brought me great happiness. It is an honour to have been asked to join the team and I look forward to creating new and long lasting memories with the cast.”
Alexandra will perform the role of Rachel Marron at all evening performances.
“At the matinee performances, the role of Rachel Marron will be played by North East singer, and former Pop Idol contestant, Zoe Birkett.
Based on the 1992 Oscar-nominated Warner Brothers film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, The Bodyguard was nominated for four Laurence Olivier Awards including Best New Musical and Best Set Design and won Best New Musical at the Whatsonstage Awards.
The story sees former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker.
Tracks featured include Queen of the Night, So Emotional, One Moment in Time, Saving All My Love, I’m Your Baby Tonight, Run to You, I Wanna Dance with Somebody and I Will Always Love You.
