Hartlepool funnyman Danny Posthill is off to Northampton to star in a panto during the festive season.

The comedy impressionist, who shot to fame earlier this year by reaching the final of ITV show Britain’s Got Talent, will play the loveable character of Buttons in Cinderella.

He will star in the panto at the Royal & Derngate Northampton between December 11 and January 3, alongside former EastEnders actor John Partridge and Sid Sloane, from CBeebies.

Danny, who grew up in the Rift House and Fens areas of the town, feels he is perfectly suited to the role of Buttons.

He said: “Buttons is a character like me, really.

“He fancies Cinderella, but can never get her, which was a bit like me at school.

It’s a massive role, and when I saw the script, I realised I had a lot to remember, but I’m really looking forward to it

“It’s not a character I have to do much research on.

“He’s such an endearing character, and you feel a bit sorry for him.

“It’s a massive role, and when I saw the script, I realised I had a lot to remember, but I’m really looking forward to it.”

This is far from the first experience of panto for Danny, who added: “It means Christmas when you go to see a panto. That’s what Christmas is all about.

“The real beauty of panto is that it’s the first experience of theatre for many children.

“I’ve done a few pantos before, and in the last couple of years, I’ve played Dame, so I’m going to feel naked not wearing any frocks!”

Danny has performed in a number of shows in Hartlepool since his appearances on national TV earlier this year, and has been blown away by the reaction he has been getting in his hometown.

The former Brierton School pupil said: “The reception I’ve been getting in my hometown has been amazing.

“I did a show at Owton Manor Social Club a few weeks ago which was sold out, and it was one of the best gigs I’ve ever done in my life.

“The people of Hartlepool have been behind me 100%.

“It’s exciting times for me, and the diary is very hectic for next year.

“I’m making the most of it, and can’t wait to see what lies ahead.”
