FAMILY FUN ... Basil Brush visited the Customs House, in South Shields.

WITH more than 50 years in showbusiness under his belt, Basil Brush certainly knows how to put on a good show.

The famous fox delighted his audience at the Customs House, in South Shields this weekend.

Along with his sidekick Mr Stephen (Chris Pizzey), Basil provided an afternoon of storytelling, songs, games and wacky fun.

After taking our seats, we were greeted by an evil fox, who, jealous of Basil’s fame, was bent on destroying his career.

Hypnotised by the fox, theatre manager Mr Snell attempts to cancel Basil’s show by sending emails to his backing dancers and variety acts telling them they shouldn’t turn up.

After realising what’s been done, Basil and Mr Stephen go ahead with the show on their own.

The hilarious show was packed with silly jokes and innuendo to make both the kids and adults chuckle uncontrollably.

I took my niece and nephew along to see Basil in action, and we had a fantastic time avoiding getting sprayed with a water pistol, booing the bad guys and cheering on the heroes, joining in with games and stories and singing along to the catchy numbers.

A giant screen helped transport the audience into outer space and back in time with brilliant effect.

It really was a fantastic day of fun for all the family.

We even got to meet Basil in the lobby after the show, and I can confirm that he’s definitely the nicest fox in showbiz.
