Craig Hignett hopes to have an assistant manager in place at Hartlepool United on Monday.

The new Pools boss has his choice of right-hand-man lined up but says he has “commitments” this weekend.

There was no comment from the club on the name of the new assistant but it is understood to be former Middlesbrough team-mate Curtis Fleming.

“Hopefully, it will be sorted by Monday,” said Hignett.

”He has other commitments this Saturday.”

Hignett has retained the rest of the existing backroom staff, goalkeeping coach Tony Caig and fitness coach Craig Hubbard plus head physio Ian Gallagher and kit manager Marty Brown.

Ronnie Moore’s number two, Sam Collins, has remained at Pools, but will now coach the club’s under 21 players.

“I met the lads up at training today,” said Hignett.

“We had a good chat and all those lads will be staying and I’m looking forward to working with them.”
