A month and a half into the new National League season and Hartlepool United have already had three matches postponed or abandoned.

Two against Barnet due to coronavirus safety concerns and most recently Saturday’s match at Eastleigh because of the perennially threatening British weather.

Just six weeks into the new season and we are already seeing a clear disparity between the number of matches each club have played with Pools one of eight teams to have played just six of their eight scheduled matches so far.

Only even clubs out of 23 have been able to complete all of their fixtures so far though most of those will see matches rearranged in the coming weeks due to FA Cup commitments and coronavirus safety concerns.

And for Pools midfielder Gavan Holohan, the threat of coronavirus and potential of late postponements is something that players have to expect and adapt to this season.

"I think everyone sort of anticipated that it was going to be a season where games would be called off and postponed regularly mainly due to the Covid situation,” he told The Mail.

“For us, we’ve obviously had the two games at Barnet rescheduled because of that and I expect we’ll probably have a few more before the end of the season because it’s happening left, right and centre.

"But it is what it is and it’s going to impact the season for sure but we’ve just got to concentrate on our own business.

"We’ll have to look after ourselves as best we can and just deal with whatever comes our way.”
