The professional foursome, who have sold over two million albums in the UK, will sing with Hartlepool Male Voice Choir in their annual summer celebrity concert.

It will take place at the Borough Hall on Friday, June 26, at 7.30pm and tickets will go on general sale from the beginning of February.

G4 were runners up in the first series of The X Factor in 2004 and have been hailed for pioneering the world of popular opera.

They follow a long line of top singers to perform alongside Hartlepool Male Voice Choir in recent years after Russell Watson, Lesley Garrett, Aled Jones and Joe McElderry last year.

Choir chairman Duncan Graham said: “We are pleased to have them. They are a popular cross over group who sing opera, musical theatre and pop music.

“They were looking for a choir to perform with locally and we got in touch with them.

“We are looking at attracting a younger audience but at the same time they are also popular with more mature people.

“Everybody I mention them to says ‘they are great’.

“We’re hoping it will be a sell out.”

G4 met at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with their name an abbreviation of the Guildhall 4.

In the concert with Hartlepool Male Voice Choir they will perform a significant proportion by themselves, and also be joined by the choir for part of it.

2020 is set to be another varied and busy year for the choir. In April together with Hartlepool Ladies Choir, they will perform at Gateshead’s The Sage in a North East Musical Spectacular under the male voice choir’s Musical Director David Gibson.

Tickets for the G4 concert, priced £25 each, can be bought now from choir members including Secretary Mick Waller on (01429) 423063 and Duncan Graham on (01429) 296945.

After January 31, they will be available only from Hartlepool Tourist Information at Christchurch, Church Square including on (01429) 890000 or www.destinationhartlepool.com
