Hartlepool businesses urged to sign up for £5 campaign to help high street thrive after lockdown
Independent Hartlepool businesses are being urged to put their name on the map for the return of a grass roots high street campaign.
The town is once again taking part in the national Fiver Fest drive which sees local shops, cafes, salons and many other businesses put on special offers to encourage customers to support them.
The last national Fiver Fest in October, which is led by the Totally Locally campaign, saw 130 towns and thousands of independent businesses join in, including in Hartlepool
With the recent reopening of non-essential shops, hospitality and close contact traders under lockdown easing, campaign organisers have decided to hold the next one in June.
During the two weeks the campaign runs, participating businesses put on special £5 offers to show the diversity and value of what they sell and to say thank you to the communities that support them.
Totally Locally Hartlepool is currently signing up town traders wishing to take part in Fiver Fest.
They will produce a map of all participants to spread the word and help people to support the campaign.
Totally Locally Hartlepool member Janice Auton, who owns Poppy’s Hairdressing, in Victoria Road, said: “Fiver Fest is a great opportunity to show the residents in our town where your business is and what you do.
“It is a free campaign run by volunteering independent business owners.
“The event runs June 12-26 when the £5 offers are on around the town.
“We will have a map with them on and a list of who is giving offers. It’s a great way to promote their business.
"The success of Fiver Fest is us all sharing, initially the campaign to get our independent business friends involved, then the campaign itself.”
It is said that if every adult in Hartlepool spent just £5 a week in their local independent shops and businesses then it would be worth an extra £20 million a year to the local economy.
Independent Hartlepool businesses wishing to be included on the map for June’s campaign need to register by Friday, May 21.
