Tess Wintgens was one of the first clients welcomed back at Poppy’s Hairdressing in Victoria Road. She said: It’s been really good to come back. Poppy’s really made sure you felt comfortable. Everything was so well sanitised.

Scott Weir, owner of The King Johns Tavern in Hartlepool town centre was busy getting things ready for when they reopen on Monday, July 6.

LilyAnne’s Coffee Bar in Victoria Road, Hartlepool had a busy start after reopening on Saturday. Manager Trevor Sherwood said: We have been really busy. It’s like we’ve pressed replay and the business is back at the levels it was before lockdown.
