English Martyrs A Level students hope to follow in NHS heroes’ footsteps

The college said it is incredibly proud of how the young people have coped with the disruption of the coronavirus pandemic.

A number hope to follow in the footsteps of the country's NHS heroes by pursuing degrees and careers in health care.

They include Kate Mowbray who achieved three A grades in Psychology, Biology and Chemistry and is to study Medicine at Liverpool University, while Brogan Unwin will do the same at Sunderland University.

Freya Turnbull and Chloe Scott are able to fulfil their dreams of studying Mental Health Nursing after securing excellent grades.

Freya got an A* in Photography with two Distinction* grades in Health & Social Care, while Chloe got almost exactly the same results.

A degree in Social Work at Teesside University beckons for Louise Tilley who earned two Distinction* in Health and Social Care, and a B in Psychology.

Fellow student Prisca Chavula is embarking upon a degree in Adult Nursing at Sunderland University.

But English Martyrs students saw success across diverse academic fields.

Top performing male student, Thomas Bennett, got two A* and two As and has a degree apprenticeship at Leeds University backed by multinational firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) with a guaranteed job at the end of it.

Despite securing a place at Oxford, Head Student Josh Cain has chosen to cross the border to study Ancient History & Archaeology at St Andrews university in Scotland after getting an A* and two As in his A Levels.

And after both securing excellent results, Kane Emmerson is just a fitness test away from a career in the RAF, and Katie Herbert has secured a highly competitive PricewaterhouseCoopers internship in London.

Headteacher Stephen Hammond said: “We are extremely proud of all of our students.

"We are pleased that they are able to pursue their intended pathways, which includes places at some of the most prestigious universities, on highly competitive degree courses, including Medicine.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank the students and staff for all of their hard work throughout their time at the college and I wish them good luck in the future”.
