The charges to park at the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton, University Hospital of Hartlepool and Peterlee Community Hospital were temporarily suspended in April.

But from Thursday, October 1, the fee will once more apply to all North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust owned car parks.

Neil Atkinson, director of finance, said: “We appreciate parking fees will never be popular but we hope people understand that, as well as contributing towards the provision of our services, charging stops our car parks being used by people not attending hospital.”

He said the income generated by the parking fees is all reinvested into the upkeep of the car parks and contribute towards patient care.

The fees apply to both staff and members of the public. The first 20 minutes remains free, as do the pick-up/drop off points which have a 20-minute maximum, and cycle storage racks.

Mr Atkinson added: “I would like to remind people that there are other privately owned car parks nearby but the Trust has no control over them.

“We ask everyone parking to make sure they read all the signs properly and pay the correct fees. We don’t want anyone receiving a parking penalty notice while visiting our hospitals.”

Charges at the University Hospital of Stockton and University Hospital of Hartlepool are £4 for four hours, £5 for up to £12 hours, £6 for up to 24 hours or £7 for a seven-day permit for regular visitors.

The Hardwick Road Car Park adjacent to the University Hospital of North Tees charges £2 for up to 14 hours.

At Peterlee Community Hospital it is £1 per hour.

The car parks owned by the hospital trust carry its logo and are managed by third party contractor Parking Eye.
