Up and down the country, people are deciding on their new year’s resolutions – with many pledging to be more healthy, whether it’s changing diet or taking part in more exercise.

But would you like to try a plant-based diet?

At time of writing, more than 700 people had voted in our daily Facebook poll which asked: “As thousands take part in Veganuary, would you consider trying a plant-based diet?”

Only 29% opted to give it a go, with 71% of those who took part voting “no”.

Here is how you reacted on the Hartlepool Mail Facebook page:

Lynsey Collins: “Tried quite a bit of vegan food and no sorry, it's not me. Those that tesco now sell taste horrible. I often have meals with no meat in them and happy to eat them but I still like meat.”

Caroline-anne Bew-Bell: “My three and four-year-olds are on plant-based diets and they are just fine. Have been since a few weeks old.”

Megan Crombie: “’Could help’ just like fad diets and food supplements everything ‘could’ help, but I'm not giving up meat any time soon!”

Shaun Goodrich: “Personal choice. If you want to be vegan then good for you. Id rather have a varied diet. I don't eat much red meat but when i do i enjoy it … each to their own.”

Sue Anderson: “Its okay for a while. Everything in moderation though.”
