It is 30 years ago this month since that historic mission but students in Hartlepool have their own reason to remember Helen – because she came to their school.
Back in 2015, she paid a visit to High Tunstall College of Science to help launch a STEM initiative. Helen spent loads of time with teachers and students (including some who came in from other schools) as she talked about her fascinating time in space.
In honour of her big anniversary, we are taking another look at the day an astronaut came to Hartlepool.
