Maybe it’s because we live so close to the sea that fish and chips is such a popular dish in Hartlepool.

We have more than our fair share of great chippies and Easter weekend – especially Good Friday – is normally one of their busiest times of the year.

Sadly, due to the coronavirus lockdown most takeaways have been forced to temporarily close their doors meaning the traditional long Good Friday queues will not be seen this year.

So we have delved into our photo archives to serve up pictures of queues from years gone by and other times chip shops made the news.
