SLIMMING siblings Lisa and Scott Rush picked up £600 between them after shedding more than a combined five stone in just three months.
They each won a Hartlepool Arriba! Wellness Club 12-Week Community Challenge to take the £300 top prize.
Lisa, 41, shed more than two stone while Scott, 38, lost three.
The mum-of-one enrolled on a community challenge run by Vivienne Dempsey at the Avondale Centre unaware that Scott had already joined another challenge run by Hartlepool Arriba! Wellness Club supremo Jackie Liddle at Brierton Community Sports Centre.
They both topped their 30-plus strong classes by losing the biggest percentage of their body weight. Lisa lost 32lb and Scott 42lb.
Lisa, a quality manager at Saica Packaging, in Hartlepool, who lives with partner Dale Willingale, a 46-year-old Network Rail worker, and 12-year-old son Joel in Seaton Carew, tried all ways to lose weight – but only succeeded after joining the innovative community challenge.
She said: “It’s life-changing for me. The classes are educational and I now think more about what food is good for you and what is not.
“I will be joining the next challenge as I want to lose another 2st and I’m sure I will with the help and support of the class and coaches.
“Vivienne has been amazing and deserves great praise.
“There’s friendly rivalry between me and Scott but nothing more than supportive banter really. We really do support each other.”
Vivienne, a 45-year-old Early Years Childcare inspector from the West Park area of Hartlepool, trained to be a coach after previously losing 3st at one of Mrs Liddle’s classes.
She said: “Jackie creates a true community spirit. I knew this was something that I could do to help others too. I went to the training days and started this, my first class.
“Lisa was an absolute pleasure to teach. She was supportive of others and took on board all we teach about what the body needs more of and what it needs less of.”
Scott, works at the Conoco Phillips site at Seal Sands and lives in the Bishop Cuthbert area of Hartlepool with wife Clare and nine-year-old daughter Maddie.
He was in a class run by Mrs Liddle, who lives in the Bishop Cuthbert area of Hartlepool and who oversees a network of coaches under the Hartlepool Arriba! Wellness Club umbrella.
Mrs Liddle added: “It is a fantastic achievement by both Scott and Lisa. The fact they are brother and sister just makes their achievements that extra special.
“There’s clearly a great determination running in the family.”
As part of the 12-Week Community Weight Loss Challenge, which focuses on sustainable weight loss, there are cash incentives of £300 for the winner, £200 for second and £100 for third depending on class sizes.
