THE biggest-ever prize for Hartlepool & District Hospice’s weekly lottery draw is on offer - after it rolled over for the 20th consecutive week.
Yet another rollover draw will be held this Friday, October 11, with a grand prize of £5,250.
Twenty-seven prizes are on offer every single week with the lottery draw, but the last time the main prize was won was back on May 17, this year.
With £250 extra being added every week, this week will again top the biggest ever prize on offer, which was previously £4,000 before this long run of no-winners.
Veronica Nelson, the hospice’s lottery manager, said: “This is the biggest prize we have ever had and hopefully someone will walk away with the money this week.”
The lottery costs just £1 to play, and although the price of a National Lottery ticket doubled to £2 last week, hospice staff said they have no intentions of changing their price structure. A £1,000 prize, ten lots of £20 and 15 lots of £10 are guaranteed prizes every week in the lottery.
Veronica explained how the facility needs to turn over £327,000 in the lottery every single year. More than half of every pound goes directly to patient care while the rest is spent on paying out the winnings and necessities such as banking charges. Around £160,000 profit is made to fund the specialist palliative care services on offer every year.
