A COUNCIL-RUN child care scheme is offering action-packed fun for kids in the school holidays.
Oscars, run by Hartlepool Borough Council from West Rugby Club, in the town’s Catcote Road, was recently hailed as “outstanding” following a visit from Ofsted inspectors.
It caters for children aged three to 16–years–old and enables working mums and dads, or those parents who need a break, to drop off their children from 8am with breakfast provided for them on arrival.
They then embark on days filled with fun and thrills prior to being collected by parents by 5.45pm.
A wide range of activities have been lined up for youngsters, including:
l A day out at the Ruff ‘N’ Tumble Adventure Park, in Newton Aycliffe;
l A picnic at Burn Valley Gardens, in Hartlepool;
l A range of activities at the Oscar playcentre, including Print your own T-shirt, water play, a variety of sports games and also a fun pamper session.
Sandra Robinson, the council’s out of school coordinator, said the kids have a great time at Oscars and generally look forward to returning the next day for more fun and frolics with the friends they make.
She said that there is a full programme already organised so that youngsters are never bored.
She added: “The team have put together an excellent, varied programme of activities for the Whit half term.
“We’ve got a good range of activities including an out of town trip to Ruff ‘N’ Tumble plus lots more nearer to home.
“As a parent myself I know how difficult it can be to juggle working and looking after the children.
“Hopefully Oscars can make things easier for parents during school holidays.
“Children have a great time with us and parents can relax knowing that their children are in safe hands.”
Sandra added that Oscars new venue at West Rugby Club is proving ideal for children because as well as the excellent indoor facilities, there is a large grassed area which is great for outdoor activities and for kids to burn off their energy..
Oscars also operates an after-school service which involves children being picked up from school.
Parents then collect them from the centre before 6pm.
Mums, dads, and carers are welcome to view the facilities and meet up with staff but should do so via prior appointment.
