FAMILIES can improve their fitness together thanks to a new council exercise and healthy eating scheme.

A range of free physical activity and healthy eating sessions have been organised and will take place throughout the rest of October.

Hartlepool Borough Council’s sport and physical activity team is urging families to embark on a health-kick together and take part in the fun sessions.

The next family fitness session will take place tomorrow at the Headland Sports Centre, from 6pm-7pm.

A session will be held at the same time on Tuesday, October 22, at Mill House Sports Centre before a session at Summerhill Visitors Centre, on Tuesday, October 29, from noon-5pm.

The healthy cookery sessions are all held at Summerhill Visitors’ Centre, off Catcote Road. Tomorrow’s session and next Tuesday’s will run from 5.30pm-7pm while a session on Tuesday, October 29 will take place from noon-5pm.

Gemma Ptak, the council’s senior sport and physical activity coordinator, said: “The sessions are a chance for families to enjoy exercise and learn more about healthy eating and cooking together.”
