EIGHTIES kids can step back in time when a community centre hosts a school reunion.
Blackhall Community Centre manager Alison Paterson is hosting a get-together for ex-students of her old school, the former Yohden Hall Secondary School, in Blackhall.
Alison, who left the school in 1984, is urging her former classmates to go along to the Hesleden Road-based venue for a night of nostalgia, from 7pm on September, 7.
Alison, 45, said: “I just remember having friends at school, but leaving school and kind of losing touch with the people you saw every day.
“I’d love to see those people who traditionally you don’t see, who don’t have anything to do with anybody.
“My message to them is ‘be brave enough to come along and be part of it’.”
The mum-of-two, who lives in Blackhall, said ex-school teacher Bill Dale is still in touch with some of the former teaching staff at the school and he is hoping to get them along to the event.
Alison said she would love to see as many people there as possible, including Julie Hall and Anita Hughes, and many more, from across the years.
The event is also open to classmates’ partners, including any from different schools, to “get some old school rivalry going on”.
The school was formed during reorganisation in 1979, when Yohden School in Windsor Terrace, Horden, and Blackhall Secondary School, in Hesleden Road, merged.
The school was closed in 1988 and Yohden Hall Care Complex now stands on the former site, in Hesleden Road.
