Daily life in Hartlepool 60 years ago is the focus of today’s Memory Lane.
“Traffic at Binns Corner is brought to a halt in August 1955 as 426 (Durham) Coast Regiment T.A. march through town in one of the photos,” said Mail archivist Susan Swinney.
“In another 18-year-old Winifred Jackson is pictured with the Great Levante in January 1955, after volunteering to be fired through a ‘steel’ sheet at the Empire Theatre, West Hartlepool.”
The third shows iron ore carrier Carola Schulte discharging cargo at Hartlepool Deep Water Berth in 1955, while the last features a fancy dress competition in August 1955.
“Many children dressed as stars, yet the venue was less than glamorous - the civic hut at West View. Despite a downpour, more than 200 took part,” said Susan.
