Generations of Mail readers have enjoyed all the fun of the fair each summer at Hartlepool Carnival.
Beauty contests, treasure digs, fancy dress competitions, sports races and fairground rides have been a staple of the event since 1923.
“Thousands flock to the carnival each year, and it is a tradition beloved by people of all ages,” said Mail archivist Susan Swinney.
“So, with the carnival now in full swing, I thought it would be nice to dig out some old Mail photos of the event back in the 1950s.
“Unfortunately, most images lack names and dates, but hopefully readers might recognise themselves or family members from the past.
“Perhaps they will bring back some happy memories for people too.” * Can you help put names to places or faces? Email firstname.lastname@example.org
