As Hartlepool prepares to welcome the New Year we today focus on festivities of the past.
Christmas meant fun, games and lots of parties for Hartlepool folk in the post-war years of the 1950s - with plenty of crackers and funny hats too.
“It’s all smiles in two of today’s photos, where dozens of youngsters appear to be having a great time,” said Mail archivist Susan Swinney.
“And then there is the amazing shot of the Rotary Christmas Tree in Victoria Road. It is so brightly lit up that it looks to be on fire.
“But my favourite of today’s bunch shows a gang of lads putting up festive decorations. I’d love to know who they were, and where they were.”
