Today we welcome in the New Year with old views of Hartlepool.
“I’ve picked out four vintage snaps from Januarys gone by. Sadly, most seem rather bleak,” said Mail photographic archivist Susan Swinney.

“Rain, rather than snow, dominates many of the photos. Perhaps the most dramatic is the flooded pitch at Hartlepool United back in 1955.
“But January is also a time for gales and, as the picture of Baltic Street in 1983 shows, the town has certainly suffered its fair share of windy winters.
“Fortunately, at least, I managed to unearth one rather more cheerful shot - featuring actors in the play Robin Hood at Blackhall back in 1994.”
