Let’s reunite before it’s too late

THREE friends are rallying together their former classmates for a reunion after being prompted by a number of tragic deaths among their school pals.

Tracy Lamplough-Cosgrave, Lee Dees and Justine Parrott are organising a reunion for anyone who left the former Brinkburn Comprehensive School in 1987 before it closed.

The get-together comes after the pals attended a number of funerals for people they went to school with, including that of Colin Horner.

Colin, 39, died on November 11, last year after suffering a massive heart attack during a game of football with his work-mates at the town’s Mill House Leisure Centre.

Tracy, 39, said: “The reason we are having the reunion is we are all either already 40 or are going to be 40 this year.

“Unfortunately, we haven’t seen each other since we left school, but we met last year at Colin’s funeral.

“There was a lot of school friends who hadn’t met up since leaving school.”

Tracy, who married former pupil Andrew Cosgrave, now a Camerons Brewery worker, and lives in the Clavering area of town, said their year group was the last to attend the school before it was taken over by Hartlepool Sixth Form College, and before other parts of it became Eldon Grove Primary School.

Tracy, who works as a customer service officer for Lloyds TSB and is mum to Charlotte, 11, and Thomas, seven, used to hang around with Susan Barratt, Debbie Athey, Vanessa Brown and Paula Spence at school.

Lee, also 39, who is a director of MKM Building Supplies in Burn Road, said: “I see a lot of people I went to school with passing away, including Colin Horner and another whose funeral I attended only the other week and it’s a shame that’s the only time we meet with our school friends.”

Lee, who is dad to Morgan, seven, and three-year-old Hattie, appealed for any former classmates to take photographs of their school days along to be displayed on the night.

“I knocked around with some great people at school, including Craig Veart, Ian Muir and my cousin Neil Cosgrave. They were the best days of my life.”

The friends said they would love to see as many of their school friends at the reunion as possible.

They would also love to see any former teachers, including year head Ken Lupton and a Mrs Richardson.

The reunion will take place from 7.30pm on Saturday, June 25, at Stranton Social Club in Waldon Street, Hartlepool.

Entry is free, but people are asked not to bring partners as the room only holds about 100 people.
