A REUNION that is held twice a year will take place in a new venue.
Neil Appleyard organises a get-together for anyone who ever attended Elwick Road Secondary Modern School twice a year.
The reunion, which is also open to those who attended Brinkburn Comprehensive School between 1973 and 1977, has been held at The Woodcutter pub in Kingsley Avenue since it was first held in 2008.
But following news that the pub is to close, a new venue has been found.
Though it has since emerged that The Woodcutter won’t close until after the New Year, the reunion will take place from 7.30pm on Saturday, November 30 at Hartlepool Divers Club, in Harbour Walk, at Hartlepool Marina.
Neil said: “It’s quite sad really, one good thing about The Woodcutter was it could cater for everything like people with special needs.
“The diving club is a small venue and we usually get 30 to 40 people at the reunion so it should be quite nice.
“It’s very sad that a big building like The Woodcutter is just going to go and for the whole area from where The Goldmine is to The White House will have nothing pub-wise.
“It’s sad to think we’ve had every reunion in there and the one in the summer was the last one, which is a shame.”
Hartlepool United Disabled Supporters’ Association (HUDSA) chairman Neil added that quite a few people who attend the reunion had contacted him after hearing about The Woodcutter closing and he had no option but to make a decision for a new venue. To find out more, call Neil on 07747735247.
