Thousands of people may well remember the treasure hunt which was part of the Hartlepool Carnival.
The Hartlepool Mail-organised event was always a big draw and saw children dig for rewards on the sands of the Headland in some years and Seaton Carew in later years.
Did you take part and what do you remember of it all?
In 1991 alone, more than 500 children took part and they got to search for doubloons galore.
Our story at the time said: “The hunt was open to any child aged between four and 12 who wanted to uncover the pieces of eight which were bured just below the surface.”
That year, children had fun for almost an hour before all the buried treasure was found.
