Quite a trip to Albuquerque

WHAT a surprise when I received a copy of a Memory Lane feature from a family member in Kendal, and also from another family member in Hartlepool.

In the That was the week making the news in 1962 feature I saw mention of Kate Sudron moving to Albuquerque in Mexico to become a supervisor of a reformatory (Mail, November 16, 2011).

She did return to New Mexico and lived into her 90s.

She left England with her family – her son, (my father) Ernest, and two daughters, Myra and Mary.

It must have been quite a journey for them.

They came to this country in steerage, landing at Ellis Island.

Thank you for the memory.

Ernestine Sudron Thomas,
