Today’s pictures from the past come courtesy of Hartlepool man John Roe - who snapped them between 1988 and 1996.

Among the collection are shots of the Clock House/Customs House prior to restoration in 1989, as well as the Cosmopolitan Hotel in 1996.

Another, featuring the 1962-built lifeboat Robert & Dorothy Hardcastle, was taken when it was placed on display in 1994.

The final snap features two historic ships - HMS Trincomalee and HMS Minerva - in 1988, a year after they were brought to Hartlepool.

“Minerva took part in World War One, while Trincomalee was built just after the Napoleonic Wars,” said Mail archivist Susan Swinney.
