A MUM-OF-FOUR is looking forward to a thirst-quenching drink or two after naming a new beer after a battling youngster.
Jean Scollen has won two tickets to this weekend’s Hartlepool Beer Festival after naming one of the ales after Blackhall two-year-old Bradley Lowery, who is battling childhood cancer neuroblastoma and will benefit from festival proceeds.
Bradley’s mum Gemma, 30, from Blackhall, picked Jean’s entry – “Lowery’s Lionheart” as the winner from more than 90 entries.
Jean, 38, who lives in Blackhall and vaguely knows some of Bradley’s relatives, said: “I think it is heart-breaking what Bradley and his family are going through and the strength they are all showing is an inspiration.
“Incidentally, that was the inspiration for the name I chose – that sweet little boy has the heart of a lion, so I coupled it with his surname, giving Lowery’s Lionheart as my entry.
“I am really looking forward to the beer festival as I have never been to one before, so my fiance David Burn is going with me to show me the ropes.”
Mark Rycraft, of Hartlepool Round Table, said: “The standard of entries was absolutely brilliant.”
The festival runs at the Borough Hall in Middlegate this Friday and Saturday.
