Bulldog days are held in two locations nationally, Hartlepool in the north and Newark in the south.

More than 120 bulldogs and their owners attended the event from all over the country, with some travelling from as far as Essex.

Hartlepool event organiser Michelle Stonehouse, who owns two adult and two puppy bulldogs, said: “We had an absolutely fantastic day.
“Bulldogs are just unique, they are an absolutely beautiful breed to own.

“The character on them is just beautiful, they are so laid back.”

Michelle added that a lot of the canine visitors and their owners were made very welcome at the dog-friendly Norton guesthouse, at Seaton Carew, while some stayed at Crimdon Dene Holiday Park.

The aim of the event was to celebrate the distinctive breed and educate people who are thinking about getting a bulldog.

Last year’s event raised £1,600 for Bulldog Rescue with this year’s figure still to be revealed.

The programme of activities included a fancy dress competition, with one bulldog even sitting in a tank, as well as a puppy parade and children’s corner.
