DARING fundraisers stepped across red-hot flames as a firewalk stole the bonfire night show in Elwick last night.
More than 30 people braved the roaring flames in front of a watching audience on Elwick’s village green.
The event was organised by staff at The Spotted Cow, in the village, in partnership with The Staincliffe Hotel, in Seaton Carew.
Sponsorship cash is still being counted but participants from Elwick alone were hoping to raise at least £1,000.
All of the money will be donated to Little Heroes, a charity supporting youngsters facing the ordeal of a cancer battle.
A bonfire was also roaring in Elwick as the village marked bonfire night.
Event organiser Kevin Sanderson, head chef and manager of the Spotted Cow, said: “We had a great response from people, obviously it’s not something you get the chance to do every day.
“It was something a little bit different to do on bonfire night.”
Meanwhile, a stunning firework display went off with a bang at Hartlepool Rugby Club, in Easington Road.
Hundreds of people gathered and watched on in awe at the spectacular array of colour.
Youngsters also got the chance to enjoy fairground rides and other fun activities at the action-packed event at the town rugby club.
